High Jump

Pacing quickly to and fro,

Never have I jumped from so

High a place as that before.

Seeing it, my heart’s a roar.

If I dare to take the leap,

What’s the worst that I could reap?

I could miss the diving board

And have to flee the laughing horde.

I might fall and hit my head,

Where all could see the tears I shed.

Or worst of all, the belly flop

Could leave my stomach red on top.

Then again my vault up high

Just might launch me in the sky.

Now I’ll do it just in spite

‘Cause all the risks are worth the flight!
